Richard Farber - Class Of 1950

Richard “Dick” G. Farber age 88, of McCook, passed away at the Hillcrest Nursing Home on Tuesday, December 3, 2019. He was born on August 10, 1931 in McCook to George and Opal (Bryd) Farber. Dick attended school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1950. On April 8, 1951 he was united in marriage to Eloise Breitling. The couple celebrated 68 years of marriage last spring. Dick started working for Hormel’s garage at age 14 in 1944 and continued working as body fender repair, painting and as the shop foreman until he retired in 2005. Dick was part owner and pit crew with his friend in a stock car from 1950 till 1959. The family and Dick would go from Oberlin, Culbertson and McCook on weekends to race the stock car. He was very passionate about his own vehicles spending hours washing and waxing, making sure no fingerprints could be found. He was a member of the McCook Elks Lodge, a 64-year member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of McCook. He was preceded in death by his parents: George and Opal and an infant brother: Jackie. Dick is survived by his wife: Eloise of McCook; 2 daughters: Deborah and husband Lee Ralston of North Platte, NE; Terri and husband David Winder of McCook; 3 grandchildren: Dennis and wife Angie Baumfalk of North Platte; Jill Richardson of North Platte; Mika and Tom Lentz of McCook; step-granddaughter: Rebecca and husband Michael Beckman of HI; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister: Shirlee Calahan of Sidney, NE; along with many nieces and nephews. In keeping with Dick’s wishes of cremation a memorial service will be held at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jeff Kelley. A dove release will take place after the memorial service. A private family inurnment will take place at a later time. Friends may leave on-line condolences at herrmannfh.com. Memorials may be left in Dick’s name to the Memorial United Methodist Church. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
