LaVonne Koebel (Carter) - Class Of 1950

LaVonne Elaine Carter

Jan. 3, 1933 - Sept. 19, 2017

SPOKANE, Wash. — LaVonne Elaine Carter went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at 6:02 a.m. in Spokane. She entered heaven as the rain, thunder, lightening and hail stormed down.

She was born in McCook, Neb., on Jan. 3, 1933, to Ruel and Erma Koebel.  After her mother’s passing, she was raised by her beloved grandmother, Woodward. She married her high school sweetheart, Dale B. Carter, in 1951; they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Sept. 22. They moved to Ukiah, Calif., in 1960 and this is where they raised their family, living in the same home for 52 years. They set a beautiful example of what love and marriage looks like for everyone they met, holding hands through every adventure.

LaVonne was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Lynda LaVonne Basgal and Diana Carter Blank and a beautiful grandmother to her granddaughters, Brittany, Stephanie and Courtney. She taught her daughters and granddaughters so much about Jesus and about life.

LaVonne had struggled with Alzheimer’s disease for the past 15 years and even as she lost her memory, she never lost her sweet, loving spirit. Everywhere she would go, she made a lasting impact on the people she encountered.

LaVonne was active in her community and the First Presbyterian Church in Ukiah, Calif., for many years, and was nicknamed “Mighty-Mouse” by her friends because despite her petite size, she could do anything and everything imaginable. She was a true angel to everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with her.

“He made you something special, you’re the only one of your kind”- The Bill Gaither Trio.

In lieu of gifts or flowers, notes and well wishes can be sent to Dale B. Carter at 9345 North Coursier Ln., Spokane, WA 99208.
