GRAND ISLAND, Nebraska -- Evelyn J. Zink, 78, died Sunday (Oct. 3, 2010), at Golden Living Center-Lakeview in Grand Island.

Evelyn was born April 26, 1932, in McCook, Nebraska to James and Arvilla (Pate) Anderson.

She married Lyle Zink on Oct. 13, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1959.

She spent some of her early life in Palisade and Welfleet, Nebraska before the family moved to McCook in 1942. She received her education at St. Patrick's school in McCook and graduated from McCook Senior High School in 1950. She also attended McCook Community College.

Following her education, Evelyn was a homemaker and worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Bruce Snyder for eight years and Dayco MFG for more than 15 years before retirement.

Evelyn lived with family in Omaha before moving to Grand Island in 1992. She was a foster grandmother at Jefferson Elementary and St. Francis Daycare in Grand Island for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband.

Survivors of the immediate family include three sons, Michael Zink of Denver, Colorado, Douglas and daughter-in-law, Karen Zink of Grand Island, and Bruce Zink of Lincoln, Nebraska; two daughters, Leslie Keith of Omaha, Nebraska, and Sheila Zink of Lincoln; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister Avis Morell and brother-in-law, Rex of McCook.

Mass of Christian burial is Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery in McCook.

Rosary is Wednesday, 7 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Chapel in McCook.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m. and Wednesday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to a local humane society.

Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
