Phyllis Dinnel (Wilcox) - Class Of 1950 VIEW PROFILE

 

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — It is with a heavy heart that the family announces the death of Phyllis Lorraine (Dinnel) Wilcox, who passed away at The Sheridan at Overland Park, a retirement community in Overland Park, on Jan. 6, 2021. Phyllis was born in Palisade, Neb., on April 26, 1932, to Lester E. Dinnel and Irma L. (Milburn) Dinnel. She was the eldest of six children and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale Leroy Wilcox; her sister, Mary L. Dinnel Podhajsky; her brother, Robert Fuller; brother-in-law, Bob Wilcox; sister-in-law, Dian Wilcox Parsons; grandson, Jason Chase Wilcox; nephew, Richard Horinek; and niece, Deborah Horinek Kompus. Phyllis was united in marriage to Dale Leroy Wilcox on March 4, 1951, at the Memorial Methodist Church in McCook. From this union five children were born. Both Phyllis and Dale graduated from McCook High School in 1950. They called McCook home for several years before relocating numerous times throughout their marriage. In 2017, they relocated to Overland Park, where they lived their final years. Phyllis was a loving and understanding mother and understood the importance of family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she claimed were the gems of her life. Phyllis was very passionate about genealogy and enjoyed sharing stories, pictures and events about her ancestors. Carrying on their legacies and accomplishments to the family were important to her. She was also gifted in artistry and enjoyed painting, playing the piano and singing as well as gardening and growing many types of flowers and plants. Her other love was for her special dogs Molly, Cooper, Lucy and Spencer, who provided great comfort and companionship when Dale was away on business. Phyllis understood the importance of education and furthered her knowledge by attaining a degree from Colby Community College in Colby, Kan., along with a medical transcription degree from Pickens Technical College in Aurora, Colo. Phyllis understood the importance of hard work and held jobs in McCook at Mac’s Drive-In and the Fox Theater during her teenage years. She enjoyed sharing stories with her children from her fun experiences at both locations. Later, she partnered with her husband to manage their Pump and Well Drilling business. In Atwood, she worked many years at the ASCS office, and in Colby she worked at the Ramada Inn and later for Colby Community College as secretary for the Dean of Admissions. After she and Dale moved to Colorado, she worked as a medical transcriptionist for Kaiser Permanente until retirement in 2008. She is survived by her children, Linda A. Wilcox Allen (Joseph) of Ballwin, Mo., Suzanne M. Wilcox Marks (William) of Olathe, Kan., Steven D. Wilcox of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kenneth L. Wilcox (Diana) of Castalia, N.C. and Janine K. Wilcox Mills Theal of Weatherford, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lesta Dinnel Horinek Jaggers and Beverly Dinnel Longnecker Rhea, both of McCook; one brother, Ronald Fuller of Ashland, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Bob) Wilcox of McCook and Dona (Wilcox) Hughes of Wichita; and numerous nieces and nephews.
