McCOOK, Neb. -- LaVonne L. Clapp, age 84, of McCook, passed away at Community Hospital of McCook on Jan. 13, 2016.

She was born in Hampton, Nebraska, on Jan. 21, 1931, to William and Christina (Schaffert) Orman. LaVonne grew up on a farm in Hayes County and later moved to McCook when she was eight. LaVonne graduated from McCook High School in 1948.

 

LaVonne was united in marriage to Chester Clapp on Sept. 3, 1950, at Peace Lutheran Church. To this union one child was born, James.

Chester preceded her in death on Feb. 25, 2003.

LaVonne was employed by the McCook Daily Gazette, in sales and advertising, from 1961 to her retirement in 2011, 50 years of commitment and friendship with her fellow employees. She had a sincere friendship with Mrs. Strunk in the early years, to a continued friendship with Allen and Grant Strunk.

LaVonne was a caring and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church, LWML, Hospital auxiliary, and Good Sam's Camping Club.

She loved camping with family and friends and watching old movies, reading, baseball and football.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chester; sisters, Lillian Roedel and Velma Happold; and brother, Wilfred Orman.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Jim and wife, Kristi Clapp of McCook; grandchildren and great-grands, Michelle and husband, Chris Leitner of Omaha, Nebraska, and children, Ainsley and Graci; and Marcus and wife, Leesa Clapp of Kearney, Nebraska, and children, Wyatt, Myles and Lucy; sister, Dorleen Ward; brother in-law, Harold Clapp; and loving nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Funeral services for LaVonne will be at the Peace Lutheran Church in McCook on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
