Donna B. Mockry, age 86, passed away at her home in McCook on Sunday, March 26, 2017. She was born in McCook on June 10, 1930 to William Chester and Bessie Mae (Drake) Vandervort. Donna attended school in McCook graduating with the class of 1948.
Donna was united in marriage to Orville Hugo Mockry on August 8, 1948 in McCook. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2009. Donna was a life-time member of the Assembly of God Church. She began teaching Sunday School in her teens. She also volunteered for many other church activities. Serving her Lord was her life’s primary purpose, making sure her family was in Sunday School and church any time the doors were open, teaching her children and grandchildren about the love of Jesus. She enjoyed coordinating "Prime Timers" and Women's Ministry events, complete with "hat shows" and parties. The grandchildren spent countless days and nights with Grandma Donna and Grandpa Orville, with Grandma always making sure they had some sort of entertainment.
Donna was employed by Keystone Hotel as a waitress, TRW, and the Schools as a para at East and West Ward Schools and at Special Education Center, as well as the rural Perry school. The students referred to her as "Grandma Donna" as well. Her life was highlighted by any family activities and meals.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Orville; parents, William and Bessie Vandervort; son, Jim Mockry; brother, Eldon Billie Vandervort; and daughter-in-law, Kay Mockry.
She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy and husband, Charlie Collins, and Mary Sue and husband, Bob Wurster, all of McCook; two sons, Randy and wife, Wanda Mockry, and Rob and wife, Angie Mockry, all of McCook; daughter-in-law, Julie Mockry, of McCook; grandchildren; Corey Collins and wife Jill, Chris Collins, Codie Stephens and husband Jason, Jamie Mockry and wife Tressa, Cyndi Carlisle and husband Jesse, Caitlyn Mockry, Elizabeth Borrink and husband Joe, Jacob Mockry, Rebecca Mockry, Aleece Priest and husband Travis, Sarah Messersmith, Colette Balderston and husband Travis, and Stacy Brown; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Anita and James Mockry; Jordyn, Coral, Cayden and Camryn Collins; Noleigh and Kasyn Stephens, Callie and Gunner Carlisle; Alexandria and Joshua Priest; Desarae, Ashlyn and Rylee Balderston, Lane and Kylee Brown, and Joslyn Rivera.
