In Memory

Robert Wallen - Class Of 1947

Robert "Bob" Lynn Wallen, age 92, of McCook, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook. Bob was born to Lynn and Alice (Confer) Wallen on October 25, 1929 in McCook, Nebraska. He attended school in McCook and graduated from McCook High School. Bob was united in marriage to Carollee Franklin on November 22, 1947. They made their home on the family farm southwest of McCook where they raised their three children. Bob and Carollee were a team in everything they did. They worked together day in and day out on the farm and also enjoyed traveling together, seeing much of the Northwest United States, Florida, and many places of interest in between. Bob and Carollee were also avid Nebraska Cornhusker fans. Bob could build and fix anything. He was a gifted welder and fabricator with a fitting motto, “Don’t get mad, just fix it!”. Bob took up golf in retirement and countless friendships and memories were made. He was a man that loved his family above all else, especially his grandchildren and great-grands. Bob’s grandson, Chris, sent lots of pictures and videos and Bob loved watching his great-grands grow and play. For the last three years of Bob’s life, he really enjoyed Grandpa Sundays; the family would get together, usually over grilled burgers (Bob’s favorite). The joy of the final fourteen months of Bob’s life was being able to be around his great-grand, Riggs; he got such a kick out of him. Bob was a great husband, great father, dad, granddad, great-granddad, and father-in-law. Bob, you were and always will be loved. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carollee; parents, Lynn and Alice; brother, Don Wallen; and his son, Daniel Wallen. Survivors include his daughter, Lynda Wallen of San Antonio, Texas; son, Timothy Wallen and wife, Phyllis of McCook; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wallen of McCook; grandchildren: Bryan (Sasha) Taylor, Mike Taylor, Larry Taylor, Erica Louis Hill, Kelli Wallen, Brett Wallen, Nichole (Dustin) Hartzer, Chris (Stephanie) Wallen; great-grandchildren: Riggs Hartzer, Averie Lynn Wallen, and Oaklie Dune Wallen; sister, Donna Carmichael and husband, Lamoine “Hoagy”, of Sun City West, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Memorial services will be held at 2PM, Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2022 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. Inurnment will follow services in the Memorial Park Cemetery Columbarium in McCook. Memorials are suggested to the family of Bob Wallen for future designation.
