Lyle Moskal - Class Of 1947

McCOOK, Neb. — Lyle Eugene Moskal, 91, of McCook, passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 3, 2021, at Highland Park Retirement Community. Lyle was born on April 29, 1929, in North Platte, Neb. He graduated from McCook High School in 1947, joined the Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. Lyle completed his degree in business administration at the University of Nebraska in 1954. Lyle met the love of his life, Mary Schumacher, in 1957, and they were married at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Greeley, Colo., on May 31, 1958. Lyle transitioned from the insurance business to teaching as a high school instructor in Tecumseh, Neb., in 1960. He earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Northern Colorado in 1962. Lyle and Mary moved from Tecumseh to McCook in 1963, where he taught at both McCook High School and McCook Community College. Lyle taught business and economics and retired from McCook Community College after 28 years in 1992. Lyle was a long-term member of St. Patrick’s Church in McCook, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, and VFW. Lyle was a founding member of the Heritage Hills Golf Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, teaching, and mentoring students. Lyle loved music and organized and promoted a barbershop quartet. Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and June and sibling, Alice. He is survived by his wife, Mary of McCook; his two brothers, Dennis (Joy) of Loveland, Colo., and Max (Sharron) of Indian Head Park, Ill., two sons, Richard (Patti) of Windsor, Colo., and Robert (Linda) of Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, David Moskal (Kenna) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Mark Moskal (Susanne) of Bixby, Okla., Kristina Duty (Josh) of Edmond, Okla., Megan Gembarowski (Eric) of Thorton, Colo., and Morgan Gordon (Trevor) of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren, Carter and Kyla Moskal of Broken Arrow, Okla., Jackson and Alexandria Moskal of Bixby, Okla., Emery and Ellie Duty of Edmond, Okla., and Aden and Ella Gembarowski of Thorton, Colo. Lyle is also survived by Dr. John West and his family (Cindy, Katie, and Anna). John spent his summers living with Lyle and Mary after his family relocated to California. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. (CT), Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (401 E. F Street, McCook, NE 69001). The service will be preceded by a Rosary. Interment will follow the funeral at Calvary Cemetery in McCook.
