McCOOK, Neb. -- Phyllis L Clapp, age 85, of McCook, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015, at Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska, surrounded by her children and granddaughter.

Phyllis was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Indianola, Nebraska. to parents Gustav William and Lydia Ernestine (Schaffert) Unger. She was one of six children. Phyllis attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School in 1947.

On Feb. 4, 1951, Phyllis married Harold E. "Peck" Clapp in McCook. The couple was blessed with three children: Steve, Deb and John. Phyllis began working in the local ASCS office in March of 1966, working until her retirement in December 1989.

Phyllis was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church where she enjoyed being a part of the Women's Guild and the Peace Lutheran Quilters. She also enjoyed volunteering for the Red Willow Blood Mobile, Red Willow County Voting Booth and Red Willow County Health Department. Phyllis was also actively involved with the Community Hospital Auxiliary "Pink Ladies" for over 25 years, and helped with many events through the McCook Chamber and Community Hospital Foundation.

Phyllis treasured her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their many events and activities. She was also a loving caretaker to Peck.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Anita Callan; brother, Willis Unger; and brother-in-law, Ralph Greenlee.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Clapp, of McCook; sons, Steve (Lee) Clapp and John Clapp, all of McCook; daughter, Deb (John) Jurgensen of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother, Melvin (Glenva) Unger of McCook, sisters, Evelyn (Dale) Wagner of Denver, Colorado, and Erma Greenlee of Spearfish, South Dakota; brother-in-law, Neal Callan of Alliance, Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Marlene Unger of Apache Junction, Arizona. Phyllis is also survived by her grandchildren, Josette (Justin) McConville and their children, Brodie and Lexie, Elly and Jaydee Jurgensen and Kasey, Erica and Sydney Clapp; as well as a host of extended family members and loving friends.

Visitation will be on Friday, March 13, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be on Saturday, March 14, 2015, 3 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service in Memorial Park Cemetery, also located in McCook.
