Wayne Leroy Messinger Obituary
Wayne L. Messinger, age 94, of McCook, NE, passed away at the Hillcrest Care Center in McCook on June 9, 2022. He was born in McCook on April 15, 1928, to Fred and Bertha (Lofton) Messinger. Wayne attended McCook High School and graduated in 1944 at age 16. He then attended McCook Community College and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.
On April 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Donna Young in McCook. She preceded him in death March 4, 2020. The couple farmed in Red Willow and Hitchcock counties. Wayne retired from farming at age 83. He raised corn and wheat and some cattle. He was a workaholic, never straying far from the farm as there was always work to be done. Wayne was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of McCook. He enjoyed family especially his children, grand-children and great grandchildren. Wayne was a past member of the Elks Lodge of McCook.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bertha Messinger; wife, Donna; two sisters, Ardis (Jim) Poole, Wilma (Lyle) Stevens; sister-in-law, Gloria Messinger.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Patti (Ron) Uehlin of Oberlin, KS; son, Larry (Madeleine) Messinger of Erie, PA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Roger Messinger of McCook.
