In Memory

Paul Sines - Class Of 1945

Journeyman carpenter and woodworker, and an avid storyteller until the very end, Paul Sines died peacefully in his sleep the evening of Aug. 9, 2023, ending a remarkable life that will continue in the hearts and minds of the people he touched, as well as through the wooden crafts he turned and gifted. From his beginnings in “the biggest town in southwest Nebraska,” Paul followed his older brothers into World War II as a SeaBee, always including in his stories of the time that his brothers did the hard work and he just cleaned up after. He returned to Nebraska after the war, resided briefly in Colorado, and was drawn to the promise and adventure of Alaska, where he stayed for 68 years – helping to establish the DEW Line on Alaska’s west coast and Aleutian Chain, fishing and hunting with family and friends, building the family home and boat - in the living room! - contributing to the trans-Alaska pipeline and countless commercial buildings in the Anchorage Bowl, leading Boy Scout troops and umpiring Little League baseball and softballgames. Paul is survived by his children, Tai Sines, Karen Davies and Grant Sines; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A third son, Guy Sines, aka Guillermo del Sin, chose to leave the family in 2020, and lives in a home Paul purchased at that time. Paul’s sense of humor and giving spirit are already missed; the family will hold a private memorial.
