Darlene Blake (Wagner) - Class Of 1945

Darlene Wagner died March 30, 2009, at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook at the age of 81. She was born Dec. 14, 1927, along with twin brother, Dallas in Red Willow County, the daughter of Lloyd and Daisy Blake. She graduated from McCook High School in 1945. On Nov. 14, 1948, Darlene married Harold Wagner in McCook. She was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, a teacher's aide for 18 years in the McCook Public Schools and a driver for Meals on Wheels. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Darlene's hobby was quilting in which her dedication and craftsmanship was evident. She made her first quilt in 1992 and went on to complete 19 quilts and seven wall-hangings. She also enjoyed doing crossword and Sudoku puzzles and volunteered time calling bingo at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold on Dec. 15, 1999; sister, Roberta Piper; and twin brother, Dallas Blake. Darlene is survived by daughter, Connie Huntley and husband Alan of Minden, Neb.; son, Dennis Wagner and wife, Donna of Windsor, Colo.; sister, Jean Evans of McCook; brother, Marvin Blake of Trenton; five grandchildren, Chris Cohen and wife, Lisa, Bryan Cohen, Tanya Cohen, Kyle Wagner and wife, Stacy and Lindsay Wagner; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Lilly Cohen;. Funeral services were at Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
