     Lois Jean Cain, age 98, passed away on August 16, 2025 at Highland Park in McCook, NE. Lois was born on December 13, 1926 to Dorthy (Doyle) and George Cain. She grew up on the family farm in northern Red Willow County. Lois had living arrangements inside of McCook during her fourth grade school year, living with Henry and Min Mitchell. In the fifth grade, she lived with Alma and Ab Smith and their big police dog. She would then go home to her parents on the weekends. Lois graduated from McCook High School in 1944.

 

     Lois enjoyed going to dances in her early years. After high school, Lois worked at JC Penny’s for many years as a window display designer. She married Robert Hawkins on May 1, 1949. She was later married to Dick Tyrell on August 23, 1965, where she gained two stepdaughters, Cyndie and Debra, who she still considered her daughters. Lois moved to Oregon with Dick for two years where she started her joy of collecting agates. After divorcing, she returned to McCook in 1971. She worked at A&M Rexall for approximately 30 years until retirement.

 

     Lois enjoyed going to auctions with her life-long friend, Mary Poore, and doing crossword puzzles. Lois was very fashionable and loved everything Betty Boop. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting precious moments and De Grazia art. Lois volunteered at the thrift store with Mary Poore for many years.

 

     Lois was preceded in death by father, George Cain; mother, Dorothy Cain; brother, Bill Cain (wife Geneva); sister, Vivian Hockman (husband Steve), nephew, Jesse Cain, niece, Sylvia “Joyce” Cain; niece, Barbara Crouse; life-long friend, Mary Poore; and many other friends.

 

     Surviving Lois are nephew, Robert Hockman and special friend, Beth Bryson of Texas; nephew, Russell Hockman and wife, Patricia of Georgia; nephew, Dennis Cain of McCook; nephew, Wesley Cain and wife Nadine of McCook; niece, Cindy Stark of McCook; and many great-nieces and nephews.

 

     Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 AM on Tuesday morning, August 19, 2025 at McCook Christian Church with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook will follow services.

 

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Museum of the High Plains in McCook where Lois volunteered for a number of years. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook.
