In Memory

Eunice Carter (McKillip) - Class Of 1944

Eunice Jeanette (Carter)McKillip Sept. 9, 1925 - Jan. 10, 2020 PAYSON, Ariz. — Eunice passed away peacefully Jan. 10, 2020, in Payson, where she moved with her youngest son and daughter-in-law. Eunice was born on Sept. 9, 1925, in McCook, Neb., to Elmer Carter and Marie (Hoff) Carter, where Elmer served as a police officer. Eunice had one brother, Dale. Eunice and her family experienced the Depression in the Plains states (that caused years of drought and the “dust bowl”). Eunice attended school in McCook until her junior year of high school. In her senior year of high school, to support the United States involvement in World War II, Eunice moved with her family to Scappoose, Ore., where Eunice worked at the Henry J. Kaiser Shipyards. Eunice graduated from high school in June of 1944, at which point she and her family returned to McCook. Eunice married her high school sweetheart, Donald J. McKillip, on July 10, 1946. The couple had three children, Donald Dale; Sandra Kay; and Michael Patrick. Dr. McKillip’s career in athletics took Eunice and the family from Nebraska to Colorado, Utah and finally to St. Mary’s College in California (where Dr. McKillip served as the athletic director for Saint Mary’s College, 1970 to 1989). Through 61 years of marriage, Eunice and Donald thoroughly enjoyed their family, currently consisting of two sons (and spouses), nine grandchildren (and spouses), 17 great-grandchildren (and spouses), and two great-great-grandchildren. Eunice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald (2008), her daughter, Sandra (2012) and her brother, Dale (20o9). Eunice will be missed by her family and a host of friends who loved her dearly. Her lighthearted laugh will be recalled with fondness. Eunice will have a Catholic blessing in Payson, Ariz., and be laid to rest beside her husband in the Calvary Catholic cemetery in McCook. Graveside services are Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2020, at 9 a.m., at Calvary Cemetery in McCook with Father Gary Brethour. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
