GERING, Neb. — Velma Jane Bales, age 92, passed away Monday, Aug. 7, 2017, at Heritage Estates in Gering.

Velma was born April 9, 1925, to Boyd and Inase (Paley) Evans in Arapahoe, Neb. She received her education in McCook, Neb.

On Jan. 20, 1945, Velma married Warren Clarence Bales. They were blessed with four children.

Velma worked for Ivanhoes, mostly recently known as Oz Tex Daylight Doughnut Shop, in McCook, up until her retirement in 2001. She enjoyed working for Ivan and Pat Schmidt and Clive and Joy Curtis who owned the business. Visiting with the many wonderful people who stopped by for doughnuts and coffee was something she always looked forward to.

Velma is survived by her three sons, Dick (Virginia) Bales of Scottsbluff, Neb., Bob (Marleen) Bales of McCook and Rod (Sue) Bales of Minatare, Neb.; daughter, Karen Sue Rima of McCook; grandchildren, Cynthia, Mari, Lisa, Gregory, Rick, Kelly, Mark, Mindy, Dywane, Mina, Josh, Braxton, Bryan, Monty, Todd, Michelle, Christopher, and Kurt; as well as numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Dick Rima; brothers, Don Evans and Pete Evans; sister, Eva Ferrell; granddaughter, Kim Campbell; and great-great-grandson, Ethan Barajas.

Visitation is today, Aug. 10, 2017, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a..m. on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017, at First Congregational Church with Pastor Steve Bales officiating.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, also located in McCook.
