Velma Irene Schneider, 87, of North Platte, formerly of McCook, went to eternal peace May 19, 2012.
She was born on March 24, 1925, to William and Teresa (Luger) Sullivan on a farm south of McCook. She graduated from McCook High School.
She married LaVern Schneider on April 20, 1944. They farmed and ranched north of Culbertson until their retirement in McCook.
She was an avid china painter and gifted cook. LaVern and Velma loved to travel throughout the U.S. and world. They also went on numerous fishing trips where Velma was known to catch the "big one." She worked for several years for J.C. Penny's in McCook.
She was very active in St. Patrick's Alter Society and served several leadership roles in the St. Ann Alter Society. Velma was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She taught her family faith in God and The Power of Prayer.
Velma is survived by her husband, LaVern, of North Platte; daughter, Donna (Jeff) Monroe, of Lone Tree, Colo.; sons, Dennis (Barb) Schneider, of Raymond, and Jim (Nancy) Schneider, of North Platte; daughter-in-law, Diane Schneider, of Wendermere, Fla.; sister, Eileen (Jerry) Cramer, of Holdrege; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Russell Schneider; her parents, William and Teresa Sullivan; brother, Clifford Sullivan; and sister, Virginia Bright.
A mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in North Platte with the Rev. James Novakowski as celebrant. Burial will be at Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to the Rosary on Wednesday and at the church on Thursday an hour prior to the Mass. Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte is in charge of arrangements. .
