Nov. 23, 1923 - April 21, 2014

McCOOK, Nebraska -- Charles "Wayne" Poore, age 90, passed away Monday, April 21, 2014, at Hillcrest Nursing Home.

Wayne was born on Nov. 23, 1923, to William Forrest and Mildred Devona (Modrell) Poore in Red Willow County, Nebraska. He graduated from McCook High School in 1941. He went on to McCook Junior College and the University of Colorado and later he joined the U.S. Army, serving in Scotland and France from 1944 to 1946.

He married Edna G. Bruns in McCook on June 22, 1947.

He was a member of the McCook Masonic Lodge 135 AF and AM, he served on the Community Hospital Board for six years as a member and a treasurer, on the Tri-State Livestock board for many years, a member of the Eastern Star and the Elks. He enjoyed fly fishing and tying his own flies, hunting, reading and wood working.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Edna of McCook; daughter, Janice Grassmeyer and husband, Douglas of Kearney; brothers, Dale Poore and wife, Peggy, Rex Poore and wife, Jeanette, all of McCook; sister, Mary Ann Tardiff and husband, Ron of Alamogorda, New Mexico; sister-in-law, Mary Poore of McCook, one granddaughter, Erin Grassmeyer and fiancé, Seth Kirschner; great-granddaughter, Addison Kirschner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, George Allison; sisters, Bonnie Jean and Marjorie; and brothers, Don and Bill.

Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 1 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home of McCook.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. Doug Griger officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
