Biography
Feb. 2, 1924 – July 20, 2011
Marjorie Tollisen was born in McCook, Nebraska to Florence and Robert Drain. After attending college in McCook, Marj moved to Portland in 1947, working for Stubbs Electric and General Electric as a secretary. She then began work at Tektronix in Beaverton as secretary and assistant export manager. Marj’s ability to read and write in many languages was a great asset in her position. Marj traveled to South America on a working visit to Tektronix suppliers while in that position. She met her future husband Richard at Tektronix and they were married on February 27th, 1954. She left Tektronix after her marriage in order to focus on having a family.

Marj is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Richard, her brother Donald (Josephine), her sister Eileen, and her children Gregory, Neal (Cecilia) , Annie (Ernie), and David (Marylyn); grandsons Kendall, Sean, and Tristan; grand-daughters Rebecca, Louise, Madelon, and Megan.

Marj was a multi-talented woman. In addition to her language skills, Marj was an accomplished musician who sang with the Portland Symphonic Choir, directed choirs at St. Clare and St. John Fisher, and composed multiple masses. She helped support her family and her education from a very young age by accompanying choirs and individuals in the McCook area. Marj taught piano for many years, and worked as a bookkeeper at a local art gallery as well while raising her family. Music was a beloved and constant part of Marj’s life. Marj loved to sew, knit, crochet, etc. There was no handiwork that she couldn’t do. She designed and created her own wardrobe, and was routinely dressed in her lovely handiwork for public outings.
Marj touched many lives through her gentleness and caring. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend who will be missed by many. Marj passed away at home with her husband and family members at her side, following a long battle with spinal osteoporosis and the resulting pain and compression of her body. She is now free!

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be July 26, 2011, at 10:30 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. Burial will be at Gethsemani Cemetery in Portland.

In lieu of cards and flowers, remembrances of Marj may be made to the St. Cecilia Church Building Fund, 5105 SW Franklin Ave., Beaverton, OR 97005
