McCOOK, Neb. — Dorothy Elizabeth Grosskopf of McCook passed away Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018. She was 96 years old.

Dorothy was born on July 25, 1921, at McCook to parents, Jacob and Elizabeth (Miller) Brenning. She attended Westward Grade School, McCook Junior High School and graduated from McCook Senior High with the class of 1941. She was employed at North Western Bell Telephone Company as a supervisor for 12 years.

On April 18, 1948, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Grosskopf at McCook. To this union one son, Fred, was born in 1952. They made their home in McCook for all their married life. Dorothy was a busy homemaker and mother, especially following all her son’s baseball games and activities.

Dorothy was a member of the German Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers including volleyball, football, baseball, and basketball. She also followed the NFL and MLB games and her favorite baseball team, the Kansas City Royals. She was a wonderful cook and taught her son and daughter-in-law some of the old family German recipes. She enjoyed taking trips with her husband to different states attending his Military Railroad reunions.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth Brenning; her husband, Bill Grosskopf in 1996; two sisters, Pauline Trupp and Rachael Brenning; and six brothers, Walter, Clarence, Ralph, Jacob, Henry and Lawrence.

She is survived by her son, Fred Grosskopf and wife, Beth Ellen, of Mandeville, La.; and the apple of her eye, her grandson, “Dr. Jake” Jacob Grosskopf, who teaches geology at Arkansas Tech University; and numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Community Hospital Foundation of McCook.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel from 1 to 7 p.m., with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services are Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, 11 a.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Steve Bales officiating. Burial will be Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, at 11 a.m., MT, at the Linn Grove Cemetery in Greeley, 1700 Cedar Avenue, Greeley, Colo.

Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
