Esther Garkovich,89, of Oceano, CA, died peacefully at home, Sunday, January 29th 2012. Esther was born on april 25th 1922 on a farm outside of McCook, to Jacob and Catherine Weiss. She was one of eight children and was the last surviving sibling. She grew up on the farm during the depression..life was hard but the brothers and sisters always had fun together. In 1943 she me her husband, Michael, at a local USO where they won many jitterbug contests. (When Michael died in 2007, they had been married for 64 years.) She stayed with her parents in McCook while her husband was overseas for WW2 with the US Army..Michael was career military, so there were many moves over the years. They retired to California in 1988 and enjoyed golfing, square dancing and traveling. She loved to have fun and did so up until the week before she died. Esther is survived by her daughters, Catherine Krueger, Frances Garkovich and Marcia Eblen; grandson Kendall Krueger and granddaughters, Amanda Kueger and Bree Friedrichs
