Durward Foster - Class Of 1940

Durward Sharp Foster

May 29, 1922 - Oct. 2, 2017

DENVER, Colo. — Durward Sharp Foster, 95, died Oct. 2, 2017.

He was born May 29, 1922. Durward grew up in McCook, Neb., graduating from McCook High School in 1939.  He married Violet M. Davis (now deceased) on May 31, 1942. 

After graduating from high school, Durward enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II.  He worked as a meat cutter and spent his free time gardening, raising award-winning roses; he was called “the great tomato man.”  He enjoyed creating handmade crafts and entertaining his family and friends by singing and playing guitar and harmonica.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Foster) Peters, of Strasburg, Va., Sue Ann (Foster) Tatum (deceased), Donna (Foster) Peterson of Littleton, Colo., and Mary (Foster) Johnson of Littleton. Durward enjoyed seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A service will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at 1:15 p.m. Please arrive at staging area C 10-15 minutes prior to this time.

 Durward will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

All Veterans Burial is in charge of arrangements.
