In Memory

Dorothy Clark (Hutto) - Class Of 1940

In the absence of an obituary, the following brief summary of her life after MHS is gleaned from a 2004 obituary of her husband Charles which she presumably provided to the McCook Gazette because of the details included. Another invaluable source was a telephone conversation with Dorothy’s son, Lance, who lives in Lebanon OR where Dorothy passed. Dorothy Clark Hutto was born January 27, 1923 to John and Marvel Clark.  She met her future husband Charles when he was working at the First National Bank in McCook in 1950  Dorothy was working as a bookkeeper for  the Gazette.  They were married on April 21, 1951 in Sacramento, CA, and lived in San Jose CA for 25 years then moved to Sweet Home OR in 1978 for retirement. Sometime after Charles passed Dorothy was living in Lebanon OR close to her son and developed health issues so was accepted as the very first woman in a newly opened Oregon Veteran’s Hospital. She was accepted as a War Widow. Her husband Charles had been wounded in the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack and was medically discharged in 1945. Dorothy died in 2015 and she and Charles were both cremated and their ashes were scattered on a mountainside near Sweet Home OR.
