Albertina McCaffrey Obituary
Albertina "Tina" Grace McCaffrey (nee Bollerup), age 104, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Harrodsburg, KY, after a long and remarkable life.
Tina was born on March 17, 1921, in Hemingford, Nebraska and was raised in McCook, NE where she graduated high school in 1939. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Marymount College in Salina, Kansas.
During World War II, Tina returned to McCook. It was there that she met Captain John McCaffrey on a blind date at a social dance. The two quickly fell in love and were married on June 18, 1946.
As the wife of a military officer, Tina embraced a life that required resilience and adaptability. The growing family moved often, living in Denver, Oklahoma City, Novato, Klamath Falls, and Port Hueneme. Along the way, Tina and John welcomed eight children into their lively household.
When John left the service in 1962, Tina worked as a teacher and then as a social worker. In 1981 they retired and moved to Eugene, Oregon before returning to California and settling in Morro Bay in 1987. There they built a wonderful circle of friends and were devout members of St. Timothy's Catholic Church.
Tina was known for her energy, warmth, and love of people. She stayed active in Gold Coast Quilters, St. Timothy's Women's Guild, and enjoyed many gatherings with friends-including the famous "Martini Mondays." Tina was a talented quilter and stitched her love into quilts she made for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She especially cherished traveling to Europe with John and later with groups from St. Timothy's with Father Ed.
After John's passing in 2003, Tina continued to live a full, social life surrounded by a wonderful group of friends. At the age of 98, she moved to Santa Barbara to live with her son Paul. Three years later she moved to Harrodsburg, KY to live with her son Peter. Her final wish was to return to Morro Bay-her home for 33 years-and be laid to rest beside her husband, John.
Tina was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John; five children (infant Margaret, Maury, Kevin, Kathy and Joe), and one grandchild (Megan). She is survived by four children (Mary, John, Paul and Peter) along with twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Tina will be remembered for her strength, generosity, quick wit, strong faith in God, and the love she shared with her family and friends throughout her long and beautiful life!
A funeral Mass will be held at 10am Thursday, March 26th at St Timothy's Church, 962 Piney Way, Morro Bay with a reception to follow. Donations may be made in her memory to Heifer International, one of her favorite charities.
