Loretta Sharp

Loretta R. Sharp SARATOGA SPRINGS- Loretta R. Sharp of Wesley Health Center died peacefully Monday March 28, 2011. She was 89 years old. Born on November 11, 1921, in Lincoln, Nebraska, she was the daughter of the late Lev B. Sharp and Ruth E. Sharp. Mrs. Sharp graduated from McCook High School in Nebraska in 1939. She then attended the Colorado Women's College in Denver Co. Loretta continued her education at the University of Colorado School of Nursing in Denver CO with a BS in Nursing. After earning her BS in Nursing, she attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN and earned her Certificate in pediatric nursing. In 1954 she finalized her education with a master in Nursing Education from the University of Chicago, IL. Loretta dedicated her life and career to education. From 1947 to 1953 she worked for the University Of Colorado School of nursing. 1954 she moved to the Syracuse area and worked as professor for the University of Syracuse until 1962. In 1962 she was employed by the Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. She was employed there until 1966 at which point she took a position with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst for over 10 years. From 1976 to 1980 she worked for Russell Sage College in Troy. Her final position was with SUNY Binghamton from 1980 until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Sharpe moved to the Saratoga Springs area in 1976. She was a Hospice volunteer and in her free time she enjoyed bird watching and traveling. Survivors include her dear friend Virginia Earles of Saratoga Springs and her cousins Doris Goin, Grace Maline and Joan Sharp.
