Aug. 23, 1917 - Nov. 29, 2013

CARLSBAD, California -- Devoted husband, father and grandfather, Lewis Edwin (Bud) Scott of Carlsbad, California, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 29, 2013.

Lew was born to the late Arthur Thomas Scott and Delilla Gertrude Skiles Scott on Aug. 23, 1917, in McCook, Nebraska. He grew up there with his late brother, Dale, through his high school years. He moved to California in 1937, where he attended business school and worked at a variety of jobs before entering the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served as Yeoman 1st Class on a minesweeper protecting the California coast. After the war, he worked in the printing business before attending a beauty school academy and joining his brother who owned the Magic Mirror beauty salon chain.

Lewis met Elizabeth Lee (Betty) Hamil in Long Beach and they were married there on May 26, 1950. They remained married for 63 years until her death on Nov. 12, 2013 -- just 17 days before his own. In 1954, they relocated to Garden Grove, California where they raised their son, Craig Hamil Scott. Lew continued to work at Magic Mirror until his retirement in 1981 franchising and managing the salons in Garden Grove, Santa Ana and Huntington Beach. He and Betty were longtime members of the Garden Grove Community Church. After retiring, they moved to Carlsbad, California, where Lew enjoyed golfing and oil painting.

Lew is survived by his loving son, Craig Scott and daughter-in-law, Patti Scott of Orange County, California; his two granddaughters, Megan Scott, Ph.D. of Chicago, Illinois, and Kelsey Scott Hammonds of Hoboken, New Jersey - who will greatly miss their beloved Papa Lew - and his great-grandson, Henry Hammonds born just two weeks after his death.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. A memorial service for both Lew and Betty will take place on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. at Eternal Hills Mortuary, 1999 El Camino Real, Oceanside, California.
