WENATCHEE, Washington -- Millie Josephine "Jo" Nowka Edwards, 93, died Saturday (Oct. 30, 2010), at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

She was born Feb. 17, 1917, on a farm 15 miles south of Culbertson, Nebraska; the daughter of Alfred and Mabel (Haining) Edwards. She had a sister, Elfie Mary Elura Edwards. who was four years her senior. Jo grew up on the farm and attended grade school at District 3 in Hitchcock County, Nebraska. She attended both high school and junior college in McCook, Nebraska. She completed her preparation for teacher's education in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Jo attended church at Stone Church south of Culbertson for most of her growing-up years. This where the Lord became her personal savior. Most of the rest of her years, Jo attended the Church of God. She spent many years teaching in several different schools in the area.

In 1939, she married Dayle W. Zulauf, to this union two children were born, Barry W. Zulauf and Roxaine Lee Zulauf. The family lived near McCook and Dyle spent the years farming and working in the aircraft industry. He passed away on July 2, 1991.

On Oct. 14, 1966, Jo married Dale Nowka. Dale went to be with his Lord on June 20, 2003, and Jo went to live with her daughter and her husband in Wenatchee.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Dayle and Dale; and step-grandchild, Jeremy Bundy.

She is survived by her children, Barry Zulauf and wife of Lincoln, Roxaine Lee Clark and husband of East Wenatchee, Washington; four step-children, Sherry Carfield and husband of Culbertson, Cindy Bundy and husband of Culbertson, Mark Nowka and wife of Gretna, Nebraska, and Todd Nowka of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Toni Aksamit and husband of Lincoln;Teri Gaffney of Lincoln, Shawn Crane and wife of Hillsboro, Oregon, Mylinda Crane of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Churell Kosanovich and husband of Duluth, Minnesota; five step-grandchildren, Erin Crane and husband of Denver, Colorado, Kendra Huebner of Ogallala, Nebraska, Adam Nowka and wife of Bellevue, Nebraska, Andy Nowka and wife of Mountain View, California, and Anson Nowka and wife of Omaha; 13 great grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Jo will be sorely missed by both family and friends.

Funeral services are Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at the Church of God in Trenton, Nebraska with Pastor Tim Roberts officiating. Interment is in the Stone Church Cemetery south of Culbertson.

Visitation is Sunday afternoon and Monday at Herrmann Funeral Home in Trenton.

Memorials may be given in her name and left at the funeral home.
