James "Jim" Sheldon Adams, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Willow Ridge Retirement Community at the age of 96.

He was born Dec. 1, 1912, in McCook, the son of the late John Fred and Eurilla (Fitch) Adams. Jim grew up in McCook, where he graduated from McCook High School and attended McCook Junior College.

On July 13, 1938, Jim married Verva Harriet Nelms in McCook, where they spent nearly 50 years of marriage. Jim worked for the Burlington Express until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verva on June 14, 1988 and by one son, Larry James Adams on April 4, 1969. His parents; two sisters, Helen Lindquist and Mildred Wilcox; and brothers, John and Richard Adams are deceased.

He later married Thelma Walters and she also preceded him in death.

Jim is survived by one son, Alan Adams and wife, Annie of Silverthorn, Colo.; one daughter, Phyllis and husband, the Rev. Jerry Schwarz of Callaway; six grandchildren, Judy Goodman and husband, Brian, Sheri Moseley, Tasha Thilking and husband, Alan, Brian Schwarz, Andy Schwarz and wife, Patti and James Schwarz and wife, Carrye; 15 great-grandchildren, Alexis, Chase, Eamon, Nicole, Kelsey, Kyra, Blake, Bailey, Bryn, Carson, Mia, Drake, Reid, MacKenzie and Kieryn; two sisters, Doris Bobier of Gibraltar, Mich., and Freda Olson of Grand Island; and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be given in his name and visitation will be today until 9 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
