Colleen Sue Grant, passed away October 9, 2009, at her home in McCook, Nebraska. Colleen was born January 3, 1947, in McCook, Nebraska to Claude E. and Opal I. (Barnes) Grant.

Colleen attended and graduated from McCook, Nebraska High School in 1965. In 1966, Colleen married Ronald L. Guthrie with whom she had three children, Stephen, Greg and Lisa. While raising her children, Colleen lived in Kearney, Nebraska Aurora, Nebraska, Iowa City, Iowa and Bloomington, Indiana. Colleen was employed as a telephone operator, real estate agent and worked in the school system.

Colleen enjoyed and lived life to the fullest every day. She loved and participated in her community through Heritage Days, McCook, Nebraska City Council since 2006, McCook, Nebraska Housing Board, the theater, the toy chest and McCook, Nebraska Economic Development Corporation.

She spoke often of her love for the community and the activities and how she benefited far more than she contributed. Colleen had a smile for everyone and never met a stranger, accepting and loving everyone as they were. Colleen loved her family and friends and was a second mom to many.

Preceding her in death her her parents, and her aunt and uncle, Russel Wayne and Kathryn Barnes.

Colleen is survived by her children, Stephen Guthrie and wife, Linda of Tipton, Indiana, son, Greg and wife, Sylvia Guthrie of Mishawaka, Indiana, and daughter, Lisa and husband, Jay Warren of Shorewood, Illinois, and a host of friends and relatives.

McCook City Councilwoman Colleen Grant died Friday. Funeral services are pending with Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.

Ms. Grant was elected to the McCook City Council in 2006.

"All city staff is very saddened by this sudden loss of a dear friend and leader," said Kurt Fritsch, McCook city manager. "Colleen was a wonderful down-to-earth person who had a great deal of passion for both this community and the people of McCook. She will be remembered fondly and missed. Our prayers and thoughts are with her children and their families."

"In addition to her service on the city council she was an advocate for the less fortunate in our community. She volunteered freely. She will be missed." Ms. Grant was elected to the McCook City Council in 2006. A McCook native, she worked as a telephone operator, real estate agent and in the school system. Besides serving on the council, she was took part in many community activities such as theater, Heritage Days and toy chest, and served on the McCook Housing Board and McCook Economic Development Corp. She is survived by two sons and a daughter, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial United Methodist Church, with Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook in charge of arrangements.
