Aug. 22, 1922 - June 23, 2007 VIRGINIA -- Glen Arden Viersen, died peacefully Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Fairfax Hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1922, in McCook to the late Cyril Arden and Lottie Jane McClain Viersen. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Marian Peck Viersen. Beloved father of Michael Viersen of Milwaukee, Wis., and Phillip Viersen of Ashburn, Va. Beloved brother of Keith Viersen, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif., and loving grandfather of Michael and Matthew. After graduating from the class of 1940 at McCook High School and finishing a pre-med degree at McCook Junior College, Arden was drafted to serve in the Army in World War II. He was a proud member of "the Greatest Generation" and served honorably as a combat medic where he participated in various combat missions starting in the European Theater of Operations and culminating with his winning of the Purple Heart during the battle for Bastogne. After the war, Arden earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, Chemistry, from the University of Nebraska and worked his way up from lab technician to retire as the World Wide Coordinator Purchasing Executive for Mobil Oil. Along the way, he found time to serve as a founding member of the Los Altos, Calif., YMCA and was the first ever president of the Mobil Oil Potomac Annuitants Club which now has hundreds of members. A memorial service will be in Wichita, Kan., at a later date.
