Dr Hertzler Knox - Class Of 1937

Arthur E. Hertzler Knox, M.D. A.E. Hertzler Knox, M.D., of Simsbury, Conn., died Dec. 31, 2001, at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, Conn. He leaves his wife, Doris (Hegenberger) Knox whom he married in McCook on Feb. 28, 1942. He also leaves his children, Cynthia Knox Oxendine, a doctor of clinical anthropology in Flagstaff, Ariz., Pamela D. Lavery of Farmington, and A.E. Hertzler Knox, M.D., a pediatrician in Bristol, Conn; five grandchildren; and five great-grandsons. Dr. Knox was born June 17, 1920, in Norcatur, Kan., in a hospital built by his father. He was the son of Walter E. Hertzler, M.D., a friend and famous pioneer doctor who was nationally recognized for his surgical texts and teaching, and was the author of, "The Horse and Buggy Doctor." He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, W.E. Knox, III, M.D., a professor at Harvard Medical School, and his sisters, Virginia E. Knox and Mary Anne K. Lunetta. Memorial arrangements will be announced at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Montpelier City Ambulance of Montpelier, Vt., the A.E. Hertzler Knox Award, Office of EMS, State of Connecticut in Hartford, Conn., or to the giver's local ambulance or EMS system.
