In Memory

Truman Keen - Class Of 1963

On September 2, 1945 Truman (Vic) Victory Keen was born to Martin Keen and Helen Keen Potthoff in McCook, NE.Truman was always proud of his name – given to him after one of our most favorite American President’s- Harry S. Truman- and the “victory” over Japan signed on that date of his birth. Many of us call him “Vic” for his middle name.Over the years we have found out that his name and the date of his birth are not as important as the man he became. After Truman (Vic) Victory Keen was born in McCook he grew up there and attended McCook community college. He then moved to Lincoln Nebraska where he started working for Burlington Railroad. He loved his work and it brought him to Ralston occasionally where he met a beautiful woman named Shirley Keen(Kantor). They were married on July 14, 1973.He received another title as HUSBAND.Truman and Shirley were married for forty five years. They had a sweet love and they cared about each other so much. On September 19,1979 Truman had another name added-DAD- when his son, Brian Victory Keen was born.Truman could not have been more proud. What had been an important life so far, was over-shadowed by the miracle of having a child born.He loved being called dad.He passed out cigars and was overwhelmed with pride.Brian was the center of our lives.Truman was a wonderful Dad- a protector, a provider, a teacher, a mentor, a friend, and the biggest fan in the stands. He attended every baseball, soccer, and basketball game with Brian. He participated in the pinewood derby races, father son camp-outs and even canoed for seven days in the backwaters of Canada with Brian and the boy scouts. When Brian grew older, Truman loved working on cars with him. Brian married Jessica and Truman was called DAD yet again. It wouldn’t be very long after that and he would gain the wonderful title as GRANDPA.He was there waiting for each grandbaby to be born.First it was Colton Victory, then Wyatt Alan, and finally Sophia Marie. They loved him more than anything and so did he.He loved coming to their baseball games, going to Disney Land with them, going to the beach, camping with them and teaching them how to fish.He didn’t want to miss anything. Truman (Vic) Victory Keen had been given many names- Husband, Dad, Grandpa; Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin and friend. He wore them all proudly. Truman was a wonderful man who enjoyed getting to know people. He would ask everyone questions and loved getting to know everyone. He had many hobbies such as camping, fishing, working outside, watching sports( especially the Huskers), and spending time with his grandchildren. Truman lived a blessed life full of joy and wonderful family and friendships. He will be remembered and missed every day.We know that his spirit, stories, and memories will live on forever. Truman was preceded in death by parents Martin & Helen Keen; brothers: Elmer, Wallace, Warren Keen; sister Janice Breinig; He is survived by his Wife of 45 years, Shirley Keen; Son Brian (Jessica) Keen; Grandchildren: Colton, Wyatt, Sophia; Brother Cletus (JoAnn) Keen; Many other relatives and friends.
