Carol Cheney (Lashley) - Class Of 1963

McCOOK, Neb. — Carol Jean Lashley of McCook passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Kearney Regional Medical Center, Kearney, Neb. She was 73 years old. Carol was born on June 6, 1945, to parents, Newel and Wilma (Lunzman) Cheney at Imperial, Neb. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Wauneta. Carol received most of her early childhood education in the McCook Public Schools and part of her education in various Army Schools, graduating with the Class of 1963. On Sept.1, 1963, Carol married Ron Fritz at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. A son, Michael Alan, joined their family in August of 1968. In February of 1971 a daughter, Ann Marie, completed their family. The couple later divorced. Carol joined the Methodist Church in 1984. She taught VBS at both Lutheran and Methodist Churches. She met her husband, Art Lashley, from Curtis, on a blind date set up by Rev. Dr. Merwyn Davidson. They dated for a brief time and were later married on June 3, 1988, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. Carol loved to do all kinds of crafts, especially plastic canvas projects where she won “Best of Show” with her Nativity Set. She also enjoyed word search puzzles, making quilts for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending square dances with the Family Frolic Square Dance Club. Preceding her in death were her parents, Newel and Wilma Cheney; and daughter, Ann Marie Brown. Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Art Lashley of McCook; son, Michael Fritz and wife, Shelley, of California; son-in-law, Matt Brown of McCook; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda Cheney of Lincoln. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation was Thursday, June 6, 2019 at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, with family present. Friends may send words of comfort to the family at www.herrmannfh.com Funeral services are today, Friday, June 7, 2019, 2 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, McCook, with Pastor Jeff Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Garden Prairie Cemetery, rural McCook. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is entrusted with arrangements.
