Rose T. Garey was born on May 16, 1933, in Brush, Colorado to Theodore and Zita (Keller) Metz. She died on June 2, 2022, at the Syracuse Area Health Hospital at the age of 89 years old.

Rose married Gary Garey on July 18, 1953, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln. To this union, four children were born- Steven, Mindy, Kevin, and Tammy.

Rose enjoyed gardening, going to auctions, antiques, quilting, traveling, participating in Volkswalks in every state in the US and other countries.

Most of all, Rose dedicated her life as one of service for her family, church, and community. She was a 4-H leader in three different communities for over 30 years, as well as a 4-H Leader Mentor; was a Scout leader for both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts and member of the Westside Community Schools Advisory Board.

Her church activities included being a Sunday School teacher and Bible School leader; a Sunday School Superintendent; a Junior High Methodist Youth Fellowship Sponsor; Syracuse Methodist Church Volunteer in various capacities, including being the Church Treasurer.

She was equally involved through the years in her community. Some of her activities included being an Election Polling Place Worker; a Meals on Wheels volunteer; chairperson of the Syracuse Germanfest for multiple years; volunteer for the Syracuse Hospital Auxiliary; assisted her friends and neighbors including driving them to appointments; was a Lion's Club member; and served in many capacities for the Otoe County Museum (Docent, Board Member, Gardener, Decorator and Treasurer). The Otoe County Herb Garden was dedicated to Rose in 2022. She also served as a member of the Otoe County Tourism Board for several years

She was the Grand Marshall of the Germanfest Parade in 2019. Rose received the Syracuse Citizen of the Year two times recognizing her service to the Syracuse community.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Gary.
