Catherine “Katie” Mae O'Neil of McCook, 90, passed away on January 8, 2021 at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Katies' journey began in McCook as Catherine Boehm. She attended St. Patrick's Parochial School and graduated from McCook High School in 1946.

She married her brother Fredies' best friend Bill O'Neil In 1947. Together they had ten children.

While raising her children, holidays and other celebrations were full of commotion and lots of family, friends, and good food. Picnics, camping, boating, ice skating, and sledding are some of the fond memories she gave us growing up. Other things she enjoyed were late night cribbage games with Bill, crocheting rag-rugs & afghans, quilting, and sewing. She also loved working in her flower beds.

Katie later became passionate about antiques. Driving the countryside to auctions, together, Katie and Bill could take a pile of old wood and rebuild the piece to its former glory. Believe it or not, she even got savvy enough to sell antiques on E-Bay.

She loved NFL football, her favorite team was Tom Brady and the Patriots. You could find her betting on NFL games with her bookie until she turned 88 years old. Another favorite hangout was Former Park with her family, betting on horse races, keno, and her favorite adult beverage, beer.

She had the travel bug, family vacations included traveling to Corpus Christie, Montana, Canada, Manitou Springs, base of Pikes Peak, because she was afraid of heights. Traveling with Bill to Las Vegas, Seattle Washington, Branson Missouri, Ozarks, Phoenix, and Montana. After Bill passed away road trips with her daughters to the east coast, to the Outer Banks via Ashville, Memphis, and Churchill Downs. At Churchill downs once again trying her luck on the horses. In Chicago she enjoyed the gangster scene, the Navy Pier including a pirate ship* Her travels also took her to the West Coast of Astoria and New Port Oregon, San Francisco, San Jose and Lake Tahoe, and an Alaskan cruise.

She is survived by her children: Peggy (Dick) Rogers, Patty O'Neil, Rosemary (George) Deck, Timmy O'Neil, Annie (Al) Carlson and Dennis O'Neil. Fourteen Grandchildren: Bridget, Joshua, Shostal, Nick, Maggie, Kyle, Emily, Clint, Dylan, Luke, Matt, Sam, Katie and Kobi. Great-grandchildren include: Alissa, Bailey, Wyatt, McKennly, Levi, Lucius, Thomas, Aviana, Osias, and Bronson.

Preceding her in death were her husband Bill, children Joseph, Danny, Tommy and Maureen. To celebrate her life wherever you are, have a toast in her honor. It’s never easy to say goodbye so as Lucius would say I’ll see you on the flip side".
