CULBERTSON -- Harold Steinke of Culbertson, died on arrival at Community Hospital in McCook, Saturday (July 27, 1991) at the age of 84.

He was born January 25, 1907 at Upland to Edward and Lilly (Jameson) Steinke. He attended school in the Perry School District west of McCook and was a graduate of McCook High School in 1926.

He married Velma Williams on April 20, 1929 in McCook.

They farmed in the Perry community until the flood of 1935 when they moved to Culbertson where he owned and operated Steinke Implement and also operated a recreational hall.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He served two terms as Hitchcock County Assessor before retiring in 1973. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Culbertson.

Preceding him in death were three brothers, Myrel, Oliver, and Dallas Steinke and one sister, Milrae Cahill.

He is survived by his wife, Velma of Culbertson.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Sherry Sklenar officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson cemetery.

Friends may call at Herrmann Chapel in Culbertson and memorials may be given in his name and left at the funeral home. Herrmann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
