Ovelin 'Billie' Henderson

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in St. James Catholic Church in McMinnville for Ovelin "Billie" Henderson, who died Dec. 29, 1999, at age 92.

Mrs. Henderson was born July 22, 1907, in Campbell, Neb. Her maiden name was Fish. She graduated from St. Anthony Hospital Nursing School in Denver in 1930 and then moved to Portland, where she was a registered nurse for a doctor's office. In about 1955, she moved to Amarillo, Texas, and continued her education and became a psychiatric nurse until her retirement in about 1977, when she moved to Salem. In Salem, she was a worm sorter for Margaret and Ted Bernard's bait business. In the early 1980s, she moved to Verboort and was a private duty nurse until she was about 83 years old. She moved to McMinnville in 1997, and was a member of the church.

Survivors include her brother, Bernard Fish of Rockport, Texas; sister, Rita Newport of Sweet Home, Dorothy Boyd of Lenore, Idaho, and Mary Lou Wolkensdorfer of Wray, Colo.; and niece, Geraldine Bitz of Mulino.

Interment will be in St. James Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to St. Joseph Indian School, P.O. Box 100, Chamberlain, SD 57326, or to Maryknoll Catholic Foreign Mission Society, P.O. Box 306, Maryknoll, N.Y. 10545-0306. Arrangements are by Canby Funeral Chapel.
