Robert Ward Austin was born July 26, 1909 in McCook NE to Robert Dillon and Viola Ward Austin. He graduated from McCook High School and attended McCook Junior College. He married Julia Sis of Beardsley KS and had four children; Julia, Robert, Ann and David. After a divorce, he married Elizabeth Ann Peck of Omaha and subsequently had a daughter, Theresa.
During WWII, he served with the Army in the European Theater of Operations, serving honarably with the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland. He continued with his military career and retired at Fort Sill Oklahoma with the rank of Sergeant Major. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma and lived in Moore OK.
After the death of his wife, Elizabeth, he moved back to Nebraska and died on July 22, 1995 at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
