Gary Berry - Class Of 1962

Gary K. Berry, 58, died Monday (April 7, 2003) at Bryan LGH East Hospital in Lincoln. He was born May 16, 1944, in McCook, to Carroll E. and Clara E. (Ruby) Berry. He grew up in McCook where he completed his junior year in high school before entering the U.S. Army. In 1984, he received his General Equivelency Diploma from Colby Community College. On March 5, 1965, he married Faye Sinclair in McCook. On Nov. 12, 1976, he married Janet LaBlank in Scott City, Kan. On Aug. 4, 1984, he married Judy Vinton. From 1975 until 1989 he was a commercial truck driver. In 1989, he became head of custodial and maintenance services at McCook City Schools. He was a deacon at the First Congregational Church in McCook and a former member of the McCook Elks Lodge and Eagles Club. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include four daughters, Kandis and husband, Greg Schilling, Teresea and husband, Gary Whetstone and Brandy and husband, Joel May all of Garden City, Kan., and Sara and husband, Roger Herren of Topeka, Kan.; three brothers, Harold Berry and wife Patty of Oberlin, Carroll Berry and wife, Janice of Arvada, Colo., and Robert Keen of McCook; four sisters, Diane and husband, William Slagle of St. Libory, Deanna Sekyra of Grand Island, Terre Bredvick and Debbie and husband, Earl McNutt of McCook; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at the First Congregational Church in McCook with the Rev. Phil Ewert officiating. Interment will be in the Danbury and Marion Cemetery at Danbury.
