David Slatt (Slatt) - Class Of 1976

David Lester Slatt, son of Harlan Lester and Ardythe Mae (Anderson) Slatt, was born on February 3, 1958, at Oakland Memorial Hospital at Oakland, NE. He was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Oakland and was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McCook, NE. On his ninth birthday, he moved along with his family to McCook.
David was a 1976 graduate of McCook High School and went on to college at Sterling, CO where he graduated from Northeastern Jr College with a degree in auto mechanics. Then he worked as a mechanic in Kearney, NE; Eaton and Brighton, CO.
During the summer of 1982, Dave got endocarditis and needed open heart surgery. Both his aortic valve and his mitral valve were replaced with artificial one. He spent 2 whole months in Presbyterian Hospital in Denver recovering. Eventually he was able to go back to work. In the evening of July 12, 1983, one of the new valves malfunctioned and they rushed him to Denver where they again did surgery, but they did not get him off the pumps, so he died in the early morning hours of July 13.
An evening service was held in Greeley, CO for his friends and co-workers on July 15 and services were held in Oakland on Saturday afternoon, July 16, 1983. He was buried next to his father in the Oakland Cemetery.
