Kenneth 'Ken' David Chancellor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Kenneth "Ken" David Chancellor, age 64 years, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

He was born Dec. 31, 1951, in McCook, Neb., to Theodore "Ted" and Darleene "Doll" (Beem) Chancellor.

Ken grew up in McCook. He graduated from McCook High School in 1970 and McCook Community College in 1972. He continued his education receiving his master of business administration from Kearney State College.

On Aug. 31, 1979, he married Rose Meitl in Lincoln, Neb. Together they were blessed with two sons, Teddy and Derek.

Ken started working at EH&R (now known as Parker Industrial Hose) in 1972. After 36 years, he retired as a developmental engineer.

He enjoyed his involvement in 4-H and FFA while in high school. He also enjoyed helping his mom and dad on the family farm west of McCook. Ken was proud to be a member of the Elks Lodge and Toastmasters. He loved to hunt, fish, travel, do yardwork with his wife, Rose, and enjoyed actively researching family history.

Ken had a great respect for nature and taking care of it was one of his priorities. He owned and allotted land to Pheasants Forever habitat and had a membership with the Arbor Day Foundation.

He was proud of his son, Teddy, who served as a Navy Ceremonial Guardsman in Washington, D.C., and loved watching his son, Derek's, college football games. He truly enjoyed witnessing both of their accomplishments and treasured the time he got to spend with his granddaughter, Alexis.

Survivors include his wife, Rose of Sioux City, Iowa; sons, Teddy (Megan) of Gastonia, N.C. and Derek of Vermillion, S.D.; sister, Norene Hamilton of McCook; brothers, Dennis (Charlene) Chancellor of Lincoln and Dr. Timothy Chancellor of Chadron, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Helen Chancellor of Bruning, Neb. and Toni Chancellor of McCook; mother-in-law, Evelyn Meitl of Oberlin, Kan.; one granddaughter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Mertice; and brother-in-law, Frank Hamilton.

Memorials may be given in Kenneth's name for a memorial that the family will decide on later.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 24, 2016, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook.

A celebration of his life will be Monday, April 25, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Jerry Beckenhauer officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
