Rick Loshbaugh   Veteran

February 21, 1947  -  July 8, 2025

     Rick Loshbaugh, of Irvine, California, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2025, at the age of 78.

     Rick was born on February 21, 1947, to Howard and Opal Loshbaugh in Brush, Colorado, and grew up in McCook, Nebraska.

     After graduating from McCook High School, he earned a full scholarship at the University of Nebraska through the Navy ROTC. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1969 with a degree in economics and entered the United States Navy.

     In his time in the Navy, he advanced to the rank of Lieutenant. He was trained in the Navy Supply Corps and served on several ships and traveled to some international deployments. He also served in retail operations for the Navy Exchange, ending up in southern California.

     After six years in the Navy, Rick decided to go into the business world in retail. He worked for Cloth World for several years and then owned and operated various retail fabric stores around Los Angeles and Orange County over twenty years.

     As all good Nebraska kids, Rick was passionate about watching Nebraska football over his entire life! He also enjoyed traveling with family.

In retirement, Rick took up stock market trading. He loved talking about his favorite stocks with friends, family, especially the younger generations.

     Rick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Christine (Messinger); daughter, Barbara Dee (Ryan) Hickey, and granddaughter, Valerie Opal; sisters, Lana (Doug) Owens, Carol Siats, and Judy (Bart) Bieker ; brother, Bob (Renalle) Loshbaugh, and sister-in-law Rita Loshbaugh.

     There will be a graveside service at 2:00 pm on August 31, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
