Micki” Josephine Cecily Cox, age 77, went to her heavenly home on July 10, 2023 while residing at Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City, Nebraska. Micki was born February 4, 1946, in Kidderminster, England to Wayne and Joan (Bennett) Berger. Her parents met and married while her father was stationed during World War II near her mother’s hometown of Kidderminster. Due to her temper and volume even as an infant, her English grandfather gave her the nickname Mick from a slang term. This eventually turned into Micki, which she was known by for the rest of her life. Micki and her mother crossed the Atlantic when she was 6 months old and moved to her father’s hometown of Danbury, NE. When she became school age her family moved to McCook where she attended the Catholic elementary school, later graduating from McCook High School in 1964. After high school, Micki attended college in McCook and then moved on to live in Denver and New York City for a short time. In 1969, she married Frank Cox and had 3 children during their marriage. They were later divorced. While raising her children she lived in North Platte, Lexington, Grand Island, Kearney, and in 1977 they moved to the Cox family farm outside of Hershey. Micki was a full-time homemaker until all the kids were in school. She then started working at Ron’s Gas Station in Hershey. After that she owned and operated a video store called Mick’s Flicks. This allowed her to indulge in lots of movie watching, as that was one of her greatest pleasures. Later she worked at the Cabela’s call center and Great Plains Regional Medical Center before retirement. No matter where she lived or worked Micki was fast to make friends. She was first to plan a gathering or a time to eat out, with conversation and laughter lasting well into the night. In 2012 Micki moved to Ansley to be closer to her daughter. It didn’t take long for her to start getting weekly card games organized at her apartment complex and an occasional Saturday night community potluck supper and cards. During this time, she was able to attend more of her grandchildren’s activities and became involved in and a member of the Ansley United Methodist Church. In 2018, Micki moved to Off Broadway Assisted Living in Broken Bow and in 2019 moved to Rose Lane Home in Loup City. Micki is survived by her children Alex (Angie) Cox of North Platte, Tara (Gail) Reed of Ansley, and Spencer (April) Cox of Salem, OR, 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and another on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents. Inurnment will take place in a private service at the Ansley Township Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Custer County Foundation, in order to establish a scholarship for future students who wish to pursue nursing as a career. Micki loved “her” nurses when she worked at the hospital and loved “her” nurses who cared for her at the end of her life.
