Learning something new everyday!
Graduated from McCook College (1960) "Miss McCook" and University of Nebraska (1962) "Miss University of Nebraska"
Taught English at Littleton High School, Colo., then returned to McCook to teach at McCook High School. Am very proud of my students who took the initiative to publish the first (and only) poetry book, INTROSPECT. Linda Aldrich was the editor with Steve Schaff being the most determined to have it come to fruition.
In 1968, married Earl Young (Olympic Champion in the 1960 Rome Games) and moved to Dallas where I became very involved in several charities. My greatest contribution was working with the Cerebral Palsy Guild and eventually being Chairman of the CP Ball--and for the first time, raising over $100,000 for the new building, facility, and children.
Diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and underlying collagen diseases in 1977, divorced in 1978.
My greatest achievement and joy was raising my wonderful daughter, Stacey. Being a single mother, I started my own business designing and making jewelry with a showroom in the Dallas Apparel Mart, Atlanta, Calif. and Florida. My jewelry was worn on the TV show DALLAS, seen in WWD, displayed in Disney World and shipped nationally and internationally.
My health became debilitating and eventually had to give up my business in 1989.
After Stacey graduated from high school in 1970, I lived on a mountain in Sedona, AZ, for four years writing massive amounts of poetry, four books, created a Passport for Pets called PETSPORT, and sold my jewelry designs and sports line out of a small shop. Studied with the Indians, a Medicine Man and loved the quiet magic of Nature and my spectacular surroundings.
1994, returned to Dallas to be near my daughter and friends. Stacey is now married and I have two fabulous grandchildren: Daniel, 8 and Stella, 3.
Of course, I've been loving, holding, dancing, car-pooling and teaching my two little loves for the last 8 years--that is even with the many in-ter-mit-tent series of surgeries.
Still writing--Poems published by International Library of Poetry: Enlightened Shadows, Journey To Infinity, and Poetry's Elite (The Best Poets of 2000) and 1 of 33 poets chosen to have poetry set to music: CD "The Sound of Poetry".
If any of you are Elvis fans and have read ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT?, the author, Lucy deBarbin. is my dear friend. My follow-up book, LEGACY OF LOVE is in the process of being published. If you read it, you'll know a major part of my life has been dedicated to keeping her secret, which is now out, and defending her in her story and love for Elvis. Hope you read both. Of
course, you have to read hers first.
McCook is in my Heart and Nebraska Lives Next-door! (Nobby Tiemann--Gov. '70's)
As they say, "You're never too far from home!"
Hope everyone is well and if you find yourself down, my motto is:
'MAKE BAD DAYS GOOD AND GOOD DAYS GREAT!?
