Norma Jordan - Class Of 1950

PORTLAND, Ore. — Norma ‘Jodi’ Marie Jordan passed away at the age of 87 on Sept. 8, 2019, at home under hospice care in Portland. She was born to Albert Henry and Elsie Gertrude Jordan on April 11, 1932, in Wausa, Neb. She was the third of four children. In 1940 when Norma was eight years old, her dad, Albert, died from injuries sustained in a coal mine accident. In September of 1945, her mother married Harry Sparks. The family moved to McCook, Neb., in 1948. Norma graduated from McCook High School in 1950. Norma enlisted in the U.S. Army right after her high school graduation. She completed her service state side in Washington DC. It was in the Army that Norma acquired the nickname, “Jodi.” After she got out of the service, she came home. In 1964, Norma was hired by V.O. Young in Denver as a bindery worker. She finally found the type of work she wanted to do and she stayed in the printing field for the rest of her working life through 1992. In 1967, Norma took a vacation to see friends in Longview, Wash. She fell in love with the Northwest, went home and gave two weeks-notice and moved to Longview. Then in 1972, she moved to Portland. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Gertrude; her step-dad, Harry Sparks; her sister, Edna Graham; her brother, Richard Jordan; and her step-sister, Jeanne Kometscher. Norma is survived by her sister, Joyce Remington of McCook; sister-in-law, Wanda Jordan of Salt Lake City, Utah; her step-sister, Marlene Svasek of Columbus, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Her memorial will be Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, 11 am at Bethal Baptist Church, Portland, Ore.
