McCOOK, Neb. -- Merlin A. Krieger of McCook passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 87 years old.

Merlin was born on Dec. 3, 1927, at McCook to parents, Charles Henry and Hulda (Kern) Krieger. He attended McCook Public Schools. On March 11, 1946, he entered the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 4, 1947.

 

Merlin met and married the love of his life, Betty Jean Masters. They were married on July 10, 1946, at Oberlin, Kansas. They settled in McCook, where they raised their three daughters, Linda, Betty, and Debbie. Merlin worked as a mechanic for Studebaker for many years. He then sold insurance for a short time but returned to his passion as a mechanic for the City of McCook until his retirement in 1989.

Merlin and Betty enjoyed their travels together in their motor home amongst all their pets, including, cats, dogs and a bird. Merlin often enjoyed going to coffee with his friends, playing cards, and volunteering at the Historical Museum. Merlin's family was his pride and joy. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Betty of 68 years; parents, Charles and Hulda Krieger; infant sister, Ramona Krieger; and sister, Violet Martin.

Survivors include his three daughters, Linda and husband, Jim Shaw, of Yerington, Nevada, Betty and husband, Roger Brush and Debbie and husband, Jim Jenkins, all of McCook; two sisters, Ardis Harmon of Greeley, Colorado and Dolorous Busch of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; his faithful canine friend, Dusty, the poodle; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Memorials may be given in his name.

Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, 4 to 8 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend condolences to the family.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 24, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel with Pastor Clark Bates officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.
