Audrey Hoyt (Oliver) - Class Of 1939

Audrey Hoyt Oliver -Class of 1939

Audrey M. Oliver, a devoted follower of Jesus Christ, was called home Sunday, January 26, 2014, from Skyview at Bridgeport. A private family celebration is planned at a later date.

Audrey was born October 7, 1921, to Homer and Nettie (Bailey) Hoyt, in McCook, Nebraska. After graduating from McCook College, Audrey taught in Marion and Trenton, Nebraska, before taking a teaching position in Bridgeport where she met and married Duane Oliver who had returned from World War II in Europe.

Duane and Audrey had three children, Greg (who died in infancy), Nancy, and Thomas. Aside from two years in Westminster, Colorado in the 1950s, Duane and Audrey raised their children in Bridgeport. Audrey volunteered at the hospital, provided day care to several children, worked in the Bridgeport schools, but most of all provided a loving home for her family. While contributing to several civic organizations, her passion remained her family and serving her Lord, participating in Bible studies and church. Audrey was always a teacher at heart and appreciated the wonders of creation. She set an example of gratitude, unconditional love, and perseverance to which her family is moved to aspire.

Audrey is survived by her daughter Nancy Oliver Barnes (the late John Barnes) of Denver and her son Thomas Oliver (Jane) of Bridgeport, together with granddaughters, Hilary Oliver, Whitney Oliver, and Jennifer Barnes Nied (Jeff).

She was preceded in death by her husband Duane, son Greg, her parents, and her brothers, Marvin, Edwin, and Thurber Hoyt.
