Jack Reed - Class Of 1946

Jack W. Reed  July 9, 1928-March 6, 2004 BEATRICE -- Jack W. Reed, 75, died Saturday (March 6, 2004) in Beatrice. He was born July 9, 1928, in Orleans. He was a 1946 graduate of McCook High School and received his bachelor of science degree in engineering from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1951. He was employed with the Nebraska Department of Roads and was Vice-president of mining for Peter Kiewit and Sons in Omaha until he retired in 1986. He lived in Elkhorn, Wickenburg, Ariz., and Beatrice. On May 18, 1985, he married Eunice (Reinke) Carpenter in Las Vegas, Nev. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Beatrice, a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Wickenburg, the Elks Club, American Legion Club, Sportsmen's Club, Classic Car Club, Chamber of Commerce volunteer and was volunteer at the Cabaleroes Western Museum, all in Arizona, and the Arizona Rangers. He was a past member of the Midwest Trail Riders in Elkhorn. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Donna Gayl Reed; and granddaughter, Alexandra Salem Reed. Survivors include his wife, Eunice; sons, Brett Reed and wife, Debra of Sheridan, Wyo., and Scott Reed and wife, Barbara of Omaha; daughter, Lori Wentz and husband, Jim of Omaha; step son, Chris Carpenter and wife, Barbara of Danville, Calif.; step daughters, Vicki Bancroft and husband, Bill of Long Beach, Calif., and Kim York and husband, Dwight of Beatrice; sister, Dot Confer and husband, Harold of San Antonio, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and three great-
