Harvey Ackerman - Class Of 1948

Harvey Eugene Ackermann of McCook passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Hillcrest Nursing Home. He was 88 years old. Harvey was born on June 8, 1931 to parents Jacob and Lydia (Unger) Ackermann at McCook. Harvey graduated from McCook High School in 1948. He continued his education at McCook College. On January 3, 1951, he entered the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1958. On February 13, 1958, he was united in marriage to Rita Ann Einspahr at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. To this union two sons, Scott and Mark were born. They made their home in McCook where Harvey was employed by Barnett Lumber Yard. Harvey was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church. He had several favorite ways to spend time with his family. Skiing, fishing, and hunting ranked high, but he especially enjoyed time spent together at their cabin at the Willow. Harvey also enjoyed collecting coins and guns. Another pastime of Harvey’s was watching various kinds of construction, thus the nickname from his family, “the pickup foreman” evolved. Preceding him in death were his parents, Jacob and Lydia Ackermann; his wife, Rita Ackermann on August 31, 1991; sister, Bernice Haarberg; and brother, Arthur Ackermann. Survivors include his sons, Mark Ackermann and Scott Ackermann and wife, Karen, all of McCook; sister, Vera Eaton of California; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
