Roger Messinger - Class Of 1947

Roger Vern Messinger was born on January 17, 1930 in McCook, Nebraska to Fred and Bertha (Lofton) Messinger. He attended school in McCook, graduating from McCook High School and continuing his education at McCook Junior College. Roger served his state and country as a part of the Nebraska Army National Guard. McCook was Roger’s home for all his life. He was united in marriage to Gloria Marie Larreau on September 23, 1951, and together they raised three sons on the family farm south of town. Roger farmed as well as working at Klein Motor and Electric and Wilcox Well Drilling seasonally. Roger was a member of the McCook Elk’s Club and Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook. Roger served for over 30 years on the McCook Public Power District Board of Directors. Roger enjoyed traveling, hunting, and boating. He was happiest when spending time with family and his close friends. Roger took great joy in following his children, and later in life, his grandchildren, in their many sporting and other school activities. Roger passed away Saturday afternoon, April 22, 2023 at Community Hospital in McCook. He was 93 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bertha; wife, Gloria in 2010; grandson, Jacob Bruce Messinger in 1987; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Messinger in 1994; grandson, Zachary Adam Messinger in 2012; and his siblings and spouses, Wayne and Donna Messinger, Wilma and Lyle Stevens, and Ardis and James Poole. Survivors include his sons, Lance Fred Messinger and wife, Cheryl of Longmont, Colorado, Craig Duane Messinger of McCook, and Bruce Kevin Messinger of Erie, Colorado; grandchildren: Sarah Marie (Nick) Smith, Lindsey Nicole Messinger, Amanda Lee Messinger, Alexander John Messinger, Samantha Nicole Messinger, Benjamin August Messinger, and Noah Mayson Messinger; great-grandchildren: Andrew August Smith and Elizabeth Teresa Marie Smith; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM, Tuesday morning, May 2, 2023 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook with Pastor Jeremy LaBrie officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook. To honor Roger's wishes, there will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed. Memorials are suggested to the family of Roger Messinger for future designation. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com.
