In Memory

Nadine Nelson (Owens) - Class Of 1947

Nadine Rosalie Owens, age 92, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, surrounded by her husband - the love of her life, and their children at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Cookeville, TN. She was born in Red Willow County, McCook, Nebraska on March 5, 1930, to Guy Leon and Rosa Elnora (Schlegel) Nelson. Nadine graduated from McCook High School in 1947, attended McCook Junior College, and graduated from University of Denver in Denver, Colorado. She was one of the first women accepted into Beta Alpha Psi, an honor organization that recognizes excellence in accounting. She was united in marriage to Gerald Dean Owens on June 12, 1954, at the Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook, NE. They spent the next 18½ years in the Air Force, stationed in various locations and raising three children. After 21½ years in the military, Gerald retired in 1972, at which time they settled in Littleton, CO. Nadine worked as a bookkeeper for many years, and spent time doing volunteer work through her church. She thoroughly enjoyed her bridge group and bowling leagues, and looked forward to square dancing each week, as they were long-time members of the Mountaineers Square Dance Club. She and Gerald loved to travel and explore while visiting family and friends along the way. In 2016, Nadine and Gerald moved to Tennessee to be closer to family. Preceding her in death were her father, Guy Nelson; her mother, Rosa (Nelson) Wilcox; sisters, Avis (Bob) Ray, Fern (Ken) McGuire, Dorothy (Bob) McLaren, Karen Ruff; and brother, Arlyn “Buddy” Nelson. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Owens of Cookeville, TN; her children, Teena (Chuck) Wardin of Crossville, TN, Jerry (Jan) Owens of Juneau, AK, and Roxanna (Charlie) Flint of Greeneville, TN; four grandchildren, Charles Wardin, Deanna Wardin, Delavar McKee, and Zach Owens; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations go to the Gary Sinise Foundation (https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/).
